So you’ve got a website idea, but don’t know where to begin? Not alone are you. When trying to find a good web hosting provider and knowing what all the listed features of the available hosting plans really mean, thousands of new webmasters, like yourself, get confused every day. Although I don’t have enough time here to go into big depth, hopefully I can help make it a little easier for you to navigate through the murky waters of web hosting. ServerMania London Data Centre is an excellent resource for this.
Second, you need to understand that not all providers of web hosting are the same. There are many explanations for this, but let’s face it, the number one explanation is that there are so many part-time web hosts out there, and part-time hosts just can’t put the time into their hosting business to make it very successful. As with everything else, there are exceptions to this, but it’s just a basic hosting reality.
But how do you decide what hosting business to go with?
Well, several different hosting review sites are available that could help you make a decision, but ultimately it will be up to you to make the choice. Don’t be afraid to try to find one you really want with many different hosts. It’s not a problem if you select the wrong host to start with, because most hosting providers can help you move your site to their servers.
Some of the things in a good host that you’ll want to look for are:
How long in company have they been?
Typically, by browsing at their web, you can decide this, but occasionally, you just have to pick up the phone and call. The longer the web host is in operation, the more likely it is that they will have the requisite expertise and knowledge to ensure that their servers remain up and running with minimal problems.
Do they mention a phone number on their website?
Over the years, I have found that if the hosting company does not have its phone number prominently displayed on their website, then you are better off switching to another provider. Then send them a call and ask them a few questions if they mention their number on their web. They’re friendly? Does it seem like they are truly worried about helping you? Did they take the time to answer all the questions you asked, or did they seem to have been rushed? This is one step that is sure to help you weed out the web hosts you don’t want to deal with.
